Porsche PSM failure messages on dashboard

Porsche PSM Failure
Dashboard Warning Messages Explained

Meanings and Recommendations for Porsche PSM Failure Warning Messages

Porsche PSM failureUnderstanding Porsche PSM Dashboard Warning Messages

If you see a PSM failure message or warning light on your Porsche dashboard, it’s important to take the appropriate action. This section covers what to do when messages associated with PSM appear on your Porsche dashboard. If you see a message for PASM then head over to our PASM page.

Why Porsche PSM Failure or PSM Fault Dashboard Warning Messages are so Important

The PSM system in your Porsche is a critical safety system designed to assist the driver automatically in an intense driving situation. The system is designed to compensate and manage situations that could become dangerous, such as a rear end step out or slide on a wet road – oversteer or understeer. The PSM makes sure that the car is not over driven and helps to reduce the risk of accidents as a result.

PSM can be turned on and off manually. This is the first thing an experienced driver turns off when at the racetrack! It’s a kind of fun governor if you know what you’re doing. It should be left turned on for normal road use.

The PSM system connects many of the vehicles operating systems together for an overview of activity. It is connected to the engine management and can control throttle position, reads the steering angle input, wheel speeds, transmission gears and output speeds, as well as yaw rate, and ride height sensors for example. It is critical to driving safety and you should quickly have the fault investigated.

Here’s What to do When You See PSM Failure on Your Porsche Dashboard

Because the system is so interconnected, the message PSM failure can be deceptive. The PSM per se has not itself failed. The likelihood is a single sensor or component connected to the system is broken. The interconnection of the systems can result in the reporting of multiple faults and cause significant confusion to the untrained. Commonly a single sensor failure will report multiple faults in various systems. Proper diagnosis of the root cause will save you money versus part replacement guess work.

We highly recommend you seek the professional guidance of a Porsche specialist to diagnose and make repairs to solve the PSM failure message. The messages shown below are examples of the PSM failure in various models.

If the PSM messages also include ABS see our page on brake system messages. And, if you see a message we have not covered please contact us and share it with us. If we helped you, please help us.
