A List of Shops Doesn’t Help You

If your driving a Macan and need a PDK service for example, you need a very different type of repair shop versus the vintage air-cooled driver looking to get an engine overhauled. Most websites see all shops as “porsche repair shops” and simply provide a list. However, the range of skills within the shops is way to broad for such a simple search result list. We categorized the shops to better reflect the skills, experience, and type of repair or maintenance work you need on your Porsche:

Specialist Shop - Skill level above dealer

This is a Porsche only shop. Typically focused on 911, Boxster, and Cayman. This type of shop provides highly skilled technical ability, repairs, maintenance and tuning work. These Porsche repair shops are specialists and include advanced services such as engine rebuilding, transmission repairs, fabrication, dyno tuning and performance upgrades. Porsche mechanics at these shops have decades of advanced experience with both street and track cars. Specialist shops will include factory diagnostic tools and advanced equipment. These shops often also include strong vintage air-cooled expertise.

GT Car Specialists and Race Services

A further refined group of these shops focus almost exclusively on the support of GT cars. Most provide track side support, driver coaching, and unique skills attained at the racetrack. See our list of Porsche GT car specialists.

Vintage Porsche and Restoration Shops

The classic air-cooled Porsche requires a completely different blend of skills versus the latest production models from Porsche. Many shops offer maintenance skills to confidently take care of these cars. However, there are circumstances where a more specialized set of skills for solving problems with the vintage cars is required. See our list of Porsche restoration shops.

Advanced Diagnostic and Repair Shop - Skill level above or equivalent to dealer

In general, this is the smart choice versus the Porsche dealer.

This kind of Porsche repair shop is typically highly skilled in diagnosing and repairing most Porsche vehicles from coupes to SUVs – a perfect choice for your 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Macan or Panamera. Many also offer air-cooled maintenance and performance upgrades for newer vehicles.

These shops are modern businesses providing the kind of customer service to be expected in a modern world – informative websites, high communication and responsiveness standards, great customer service, excellent facilities etc. These shops are also usually broadly experienced in the other European car brands, which helps to add a depth of experience to any work undertaken.

Many shops are now Hybrid certified for the latest low emission vehicles. Advanced diagnostic and repair shops use the latest factory level tools, and many can provide option programming and software updates. These shops typically feature factory trained mechanics and are your best choice versus the Porsche dealer.

Maintenance Shop - Skill level equivalent to dealer maintenance services

The maintenance shop is an excellent choice versus the Porsche dealer. Truth is, with a 15-year-old 911, Boxster, Cayman or Cayenne you’re a little out of place at a dealer focused on pretty new electric cars! This age of car requires inspection-based maintenance at an economical rate.

The maintenance Porsche repair shop typically provides a highly efficient and cost-conscious maintenance service for Porsche customers. These shops typically offer experience, expertise and excellent customer service. They are a perfect choice for scheduled Porsche maintenance services on later Cayenne, Macan, Panamera and the coupes, while also being an excellent choice for the aging water-cooled cars.
