Don’t Try This At Home!
Accidents happen – not much you can do about that. However, it always feels a little better to know you are driving a vehicle that has past the tests that simulate some of the most severe accident types.
The Porsche Taycan recently aced the Euro NCAP assessment program. The safety body reported its findings this week and the Porsche Taycan earned an 85% rating in adult occupant safety – good enough for a five-star rating.
The Euro NCAP program looks at a variety of areas and not just how well a car performs in a barrage of crash tests. How well a car handles the wreck plays into and helps with its star rating. It’s also worth noting that fewer stars doesn’t necessarily mean a car is unsafe on the Euro NCAP scale. The star rating goes beyond the legal requirements, however, the number of stars provides a comparison mechanism to see how cars stack up.
US agencies haven’t yet tested or published ratings for the Taycan electric sedan. Surprisingly, nearly every new car on sale earns a five-star rating with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – hmm, maybe some adjustment in the testing needed?
