The IPD Plenums upgrade for the Porsche 911 Turbo 996 is an innovative “Y” style designed aluminum intake plenum that replaces the factory plastic T style plenum. The IPD design improves performance by channeling intake air to the cylinder banks more efficiently. This design reduces air flow turbulence caused by the T style design and increases air flow velocity. This results in substantial measurable power gains throughout the entire rpm band and the torque increases are most noticeable at lower rpm.

There are two versions based on the modification goals for your 996 Turbo or GT2:

996 911 Turbo 68mm IPD Plenum – $850.00 | Turbo, Turbo S, X50 & GT2

ipd plenum upgrade for 911 996 turbo installedThe IPD Plenum for the 996 Turbo delivers an impressive 42 horsepower peak gain and 37 Ft Lbs torque gain. These gains are mainly felt in the mid to higher end rpm, however, performance improvements are realized throughout the entire rev range. The added power creates a more liner power curve and helps to increase boost response from the turbos.

This version of the IPD Plenum is designed for cars with basic modifications and not so lofty HP gains. Modifications such as an exhaust, intake etc are well suited to this plenum.

996 911 Turbo 74mm IPD Plenum – $850.00 | Turbo, Turbo S, X50 & GT2

For modifications designed to enhance the 996 Turbo to above 700 HP the IPD 74mm Competition Plenum and Throttle Body are more suited. The Competition Plenum is widely used in conjunction with ECU software, larger turbos, inter-coolers etc. The additional larger throttle body has helped the plenum to deliver on horse power targets of 1000 and above on highly modified cars.

+ Our Opinion

The IPD Plenum upgrade is one of a few products that consistently delivers power and torque gains. You can feel the extra torque available and the increased turbo spool in lower speed third gear pulls. The competition plenum and throttle body combination enable you to take full advantage of any other engine modifications you might make. Combined with an exhaust, ECU tune and intake, the IPD Plenums definitely deliver results we’ve enjoyed over the years. If your going big on HP numbers, the competition version is the way to go.

+ Installation

Installation requires some more advanced skills. On the 996 turbo there isn’t too much room to work with around the throttle body and factory plenum area.  We recommend you seek the assistance of someone who has previous experience of removing the plenum on the turbo before you tackle this one.

If you’re not comfortable with installing the plenum yourself, we’d suggest you search our directory for a local specialist shop who can install this for you – or contact us and we’ll recommend a friendly local specialist for you.
