Porsche PDK common problems and issues explainedUnderstanding Porsche Transmission and AWD Dash Warning Messages – What to do Next

If you see a transmission message or warning light on your Porsche dashboard, it’s important to take the appropriate action immediately. This section covers what to do when messages associated with transmission, all-wheel-drive, or PADM appear on your Porsche dashboard.

Porsche PDK Transmission Warning Messages

The transmission or gearbox in your Porsche is a major assembly and critical to safe driving and performance of the the vehicle. Transmissions have developed over the years and are now significantly more advanced. The Porsche PDK transmission for example, is highly complex and capable of multiple modes ranging from smooth highway based shifts to manual rapid gear changes on the racetrack. Don’t ignore transmission messages and have the issue diagnosed immediately.

Porsche All Wheel Drive Dash Messages

The Porsche All Wheel Drive or AWD system can also report messages on your dashboard. Failures in this system can be very similar or related to transmission problems. Failure of the transfer case in the Macan and Cayenne for example is commonplace.

Active Drivetrain Messages

One of the more recent additions is the Porsche Active Drivetrain Management – PADM. This system electronically controls the firmness of the drive-train mounts and is designed to improve stiffness in the drivetrain during spirited driving. Repairs to this system are common and can be expensive.

Solving Porsche PDK Transmission Problems

Warning messages from the transmission, AWD, or PADM on your dashboard are rare and generally not overly descriptive. They aren’t something you really ever want to see and they should be accompanied by a collection of Dollar signs! Transmission repairs can be extremely expensive and in many cases the Porsche dealer diagnosis will be replacement of the transmission! That’s a very expensive answer for a PDK transmission problem and one you really don’t want to hear. You may find solutions to your PDK problems in our page dedicated to common problems with the PDK transmission.

What to Do When You See a Transmission Warning Message on Your Porsche Dashboard

Some of our recommended Porsche specialists do offer more extensive repairs to the PDK transmission and the AWD system that are not undertaken by the dealerships. If you have a transmission warning message, don’t drive the car. Have it towed to a repair facility as soon as possible and get the problem diagnosed professionally.
