ipd plenum upgrade 911 turbo 991The IPD Plenums upgrade for the Porsche 911 Turbo 991 is an innovative “Y” style designed aluminum intake plenum, that replaces the factory plastic T style plenum. The IPD design improves performance by channeling intake air to the cylinder banks more efficiently. This design reduces air flow turbulence caused by the factory T style design and increases air flow velocity. This results in substantial measurable power gains throughout the entire rpm band and the torque increases are most noticeable at lower rpm.

The 9A1 IPD Turbo Plenum for the 991 Turbo is offered in a 74mm version and reuses the factory throttle body. The 991 Turbo intake manifolds are smaller than the previous engine. The smaller intake manifolds are for improved boost response and better gas mileage, but less than ideal for making substantial power gains. Despite this, the 991 Turbo Plenum from IPD makes power all the way up the power curve, with the peak power being delivered near the usable mid-range.

991 911 Turbo Y-Pipe – $1295.00

The IPD 991 Turbo Y-Pipe was re-design from scratch to deliver more air then the factory pipe.

ipd plenum upgrade porsche 911 turbo 991 y-pipe comparisonThe factory Y pipe can become restrictive when adding larger turbos. The IPD Y-Pipe has larger inlets and an optimized diversion area allowing for greater power gains. This superior design is significantly more efficient and flows 126 cfm more than the factory Y pipe. The IPD Y-pipe delivers greater volume of air, improved flow and increased air velocity. These improvements deliver an additional 35+ wheel HP, 40+ Foot Pounds of Torque, improved boost response and more linear power and torque curves.

IPD was careful to design the Y-Pipe to deliver optimum flow without being too large. Just increasing the pipe size can cause a loss in boost response. These Y-Pipes can also be special ordered in custom powder coated colors and ceramic coatings or polished to improve the aesthetic appeal of your Turbo engine if desired.

+ Our Opinion

The IPD Plenum upgrade is one of a few products that consistently delivers power and torque gains. You can feel the extra torque available and the increased turbo spool in lower speed third gear pulls. The plenum and Y-Pipe combination enable you to take full advantage of any other engine modifications you might make. Combined with an exhaust, ECU tune and intake, the IPD Plenums definitely deliver consistent strong results.

+ Installation

Installation, while easier than the previous turbo version, does require some more advanced skills. We recommend you seek the assistance of someone who has previous experience of removing the plenum on the turbo before you tackle this one. The Y-Pipe installation in comparison is very simple.

If you’re not comfortable with installing the plenum yourself, we’d suggest you search our directory for a local specialist Porsche shop who can install this for you – or contact us and we’ll recommend a friendly local specialist for you.
