REmaking the 80’s 911 Into a Modern Performer

February 3, 2020

Back to the Future – 1980’s Modern Porsche 911

Classic cars are wonderful to look at and in some cases fun to drive – many however, suffer from the problems of yesteryear. We’ve become so accustomed to all the driver aid features and smoothness of the modern car, that often the classic seems to come up short for likeability and drivability.

Clunky steering, bad suspension, heavy clutch, bulky tires, pedals that go the wrong direction – this is supposed to be fun right? When we were kids and really wanted that air-cooled Porsche, we had no idea how rough it was compared to today’s car – never meet your heroes, right?

Behold the “remake of the 911” – which is exactly what Resolute Motorsports does.

Porsche purists were horrified at the launch of the Cayenne, so this is likely to make them dizzy with disdain! Resolute Motorsports takes the 1980 through 1989 chassis and makes a fun modernized classic that you can really enjoy. The ultimate blend of modern drivability mated to the full manual connection of driver to car that is the remade Overland 911 or Tanto 911.

Overland 911

“The Overland 911 is built to go everywhere you never thought you would go in your Porsche, bringing new experiences in the engaging sports car you have always loved.”

Resolute Motorsports takes an original 911 from the 80’s and changes it into the fun go anywhere rally style car you’ve always wanted. Custom built to order for each customer, Resolute installs customized plate shielding to protect the undercarriage, oil and brake lines.

They add a fully supported tubular sub-frame to the original frame hard points and additional reinforced chassis mounts are installed. Full skid plates are added and customized to the vehicle along with suspension and brake mods.

Oil and brake lines are fully protected behind rock shielding, so you can go crazy on dirt or gravel roads and be sure the car will stand up to anything the road can throw at it. The result is a stiffer, lighter car than literally go anywhere.

Tanto 911

“The Tanto 911 is a no compromise, turn-key approach to modernizing the classic road-going, air-cooled 911 — in all the right ways.”

For those who want to stay on more asphalt, Resolute has the Tanto 911 which pairs classic G-body styling with modern road handling, thanks to upgrades including suspension components, bigger brakes, lightened chassis and interior, and plus-sized wheels and tires for increased grip. This is how you want a classic car to feel – all the wonderful car to driver communication of the classic, coupled with the handling and stopping power of modern technology.

If you don’t have a car already, Resolute can help you find a base chassis to build from. Cars are custom built to order with a set of predefined specifications for each owner. Founders Gal Bar-or and Scott Birdsall have an unequaled depth of experience and the enthusiasm for turning this icon into an amazing modern classic.

The question is, does the Resolute treatment work for an early water-cooled car? – we think so and Resolute agrees. If you want to buy a cheap early 996 and have Resolute build you a one-off modern classic, reach out and chat with them. See Resolute Motorsports for more info.
