Spoiler Failure Dashboard Warning Messages

Porsche spoiler fault dash messagesUnderstanding Porsche Spoiler Failure Dashboard Warning Messages and Lights

If you see a spoiler message or warning light on your Porsche dashboard, it’s important to take the appropriate action. This section covers what to do when messages associated with front or rear spoiler appear on your Porsche dashboard.

Many Porsche models, such as the 911, and Panamera, feature a rear spoiler which adjusts position based on vehicle speed. More recently, Porsche introduced front spoilers that change the aerodynamics at the front of the car in the same way. The spoiler angle is changed based on speed using electric motors and hydraulic cylinders.

The spoilers are pretty and cool, but they are also practical, offering some degree of additional safety based on the down-force created at speed. It is therefore, important that a spoiler failure be addressed quickly. A spoiler failure does not prevent you driving the car, but it does change the handling characteristics.

Failure of the spoiler to deploy or a stuck in position error is quite common. There are a number of likely causes from failure in the hydraulic rams, to burnt out motors, to a break in the electrical supply wiring. Sometimes the problem can be a failed spoiler button, if you have one inside the car. The spoiler parts are typically not available for some models and replacement of the whole spoiler assembly is necessary in many circumstances. That can be expensive!

On some models, such as the 911, some of the component parts that control the deployment of the spoiler are available to enable a repair.

If you see a spoiler failure message on your Porsche dashboard we recommend you seek the the advice of a Porsche specialist. Spoiler failure can be related to the local environmental conditions and Panamera spoilers, for example, often become stuck in cold dry conditions. We recommend a thorough diagnosis of the spoiler problem. With good luck, the issue could be simply resolved rather than the assembly being replaced.
